Metalsmithing Class

A few weeks ago I started taking a Metalsmithing Class @ Lill Street, an incredible Art Center in Chicago.  I haven't soldered, cast metals, or used a drill press since my college Sculpture classes, so we'll see how it goes.  Slow but sure, I'll keep posting my progressions:)

ST Italian Marble Tiles

Hurray!  We just finished our first mini-line of Home products: hand printed, tumbled, Italian Botticino Marble Tiles.  The designs are based on a collage of natural elements: gem formations, botanics, & birds.  They'll be available with or without corked backs (for coasters) within the next week on our site.  We'd love to get some feedback, so please leave comments or send emails!

Holiday Weekend

Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend.  We just got back from a last-minute trip to San Francisco (1st time we've been.)  Thought I'd include some excellent finds, for all you non-Bay Area people;)  We had a great hotel (Hilton Financial District) overlooking Chinatown (or the beautiful hills & Bay if you pay a bit more).  We went to Chinatown pretty much every day.  On our last day, we saw the 'Lew's Family Lion Dance' preparing for a street performance.
RJ found the most gorgeous cake boutique in North Beach called "I Dream of Cake" & sadly it was closed by the time we got to it.  Thank you to IDOC for the pics:)  Check out their site & drool.  Voted by me for best bakery boutique design ever.

We also had the BEST, most unique, pizza at Cafe Divine, in North Beach (Purgatorio Pizzetta).  I will miss this very much until we return.  Sorry, no pics, I was too busy going "Ahhhhh" to take any.  If anyone "knows someone who knows someone", perhaps we can arrange for an "exchange" of some sort including the recipe for the pizza crust?  Imagine a cracker-style crust with carmelized onions, garlic confit (carmelized whole cloves), shaved grana parmesan, & crispy whole sage leaves on top.  Mind blowing.
